Mike has a strong background in all types of masonry since starting his apprenticeship at 16 back in his home town of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. This historic town is set deep in the Welsh valleys, where there are stone houses, bridges and monuments hundreds of years old still standing. Stonemasonry is literally everywhere and somewhat taken for granted, from old coal miners cottages to the Great Castles once occupied by Royalty.  Over the years of being in the building trade he has specialised in both dry-stack and mortared stonework, set out and built houses with stone, bricks and blocks and has also done general building work, renovations and repair work consisting of plastering, tiling, roofing, carpentry, landscaping and specialised in polished marble feature fireplaces at one stage.
